ANDREWS alias PORTER
I live in Saffron Walden and have traced my line back to George Porter of Arkesden. His marriage entry in the parish of Wicken Bonhunt in October 1724 to Ann Jordan refers to him as George Andrews alias Porter of Arkesden. However he does not appear in the baptism records of Arkesden, nor any of the parishes in a 10 mile radius. I would place his year of birth conservatively between 1695 & 1705. I have seen another family in the nearby village of Clavering being referred to in the same way, Porter alias Andrews and Andrews alias Porter. If other researchers could detail any Essex or other County parishes where they may have seen this name, that would be very helpful.Matthew Porter(15/07/2011)

The elder Sessions went to enlist in the Great War, and wanted to join the Middlesex Regiment, that was not allowed. GARON
This surname was well known in Southend during the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries, where the family owned many shops, restaurants and other businesses. Despite there still being a Garon Park in Southend the family seems to have died out. Connie Garon married Herbert A. West (twice!) in 1903 and again in 1904. They lived in Westcliffe, Southend, and had three daughters. In the late 1920s Herbert vanished from the family home suddenly and with no warning and all further contact with him was lost. Would very much like to contact anyone to whom this sounds familiar. It is possible he had a second family somewhere else either in Essex, Sussex. London or elsewhere around this time although so far have been unable to confirm this. Thank you for any help.Sara Mazzoni(17/03/2014)

RICKWOOD
James Tutfield Rickwood born about 1841 Waltham Abbey Essex was married to Frances Kitney in 1869 Milton Kent and he died 20/09/1905 Milton Kent. I am wondering if his mother may have been a Tutfield but haven’t been able to find anything on this Tutfield name. James Tutfield Rickwood and his wife, Frances, and children lived at 14 Caroline’s Row, Upchurch, Kent. These terrace houses were built on the same land as the brickfields specifically for the regular workers – James was a brickfield labourer. The family had to find other accommodation when James died. There were 7 children to the above couple: born about 1871 Harry J – 1873 Arthur George – 1876 William – 1879 Edith Rose – 1881 Alfred John – 1884 Frances Louisa – and 1887 George Edward. Five of these children and their mother came to Australia after their father died (the other two children, Harry J and Edith Rose, also died in England before the rest of the family came to Australia). I am hoping that there is someone who knows of Tutfield people that could be connected to James? Maureen Gibbs(27/12/2009)

WEBB
I have been able to track my Webb line to the early 1800's but cannot find the birth record of one son, Henry Webb, born about 1838 in Chelmsford, Essex either in the parish records or civil registration to parents George Webb and Charlotte Drake. I am having difficulty locating the marriage record of my great-greatgrandfather, William Webb (son of George & Charlotte) who married Hannah Nixon probably around 1864-1866. By that time he was in a regiment and her parents had been military as well but they are in the 1861 census in Chelmsford (although they originated in Ireland) so that makes me think that William and Hannah married in the Chelmsford area as well. It is a real puzzle and one I've been trying to figure out for some time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Margo Mckinstry(10/06/2006)
